On machines like the PDP-1 1 and VAX, as well as 6 years with the Mac.Asked if I could knock up a post on using APT on MacOS due to the frequency of times it comes up, so here goes!Software and Drivers. You can also create snapshots manually whenever you upgrade a piece of software. Should a Windows Update scupper your setup, you can simply restore your known-working snapshot and be back up and running in MINUTES, and deal with the Windows Update at a more opportune time. Stacking software – eg: DeepSkyStacker or Sequator for WindowsWith all of the above in place, you should be able to use the full compliment of APT’s features without issue.NB: If it’s cloudy, now’s the time to familiarise yourself with those features and how they work o’er in the APT ManualOnce your setup is verified, field-tested and working, it’s highly recommend to CREATE A SNAPSHOT of your Parallels VM. Platesolving software – eg: ASPS & PlateSolve2 (see APT Manual) Guiding software – eg: PHD2 for Windows A planetarium – eg: Stellarium for WindowsFor this to work correctly the Parallels Windows VM will need to be set up to use a "Shared Network" (the default) or a "Bridged network". This will expose an IP address and Port in Windows that you can enter into SkySafari in MacOS or on your mobile device (which will need to be on the same WiFi network as your Mac) to connect "remotely" to your Windows-based ASCOM mount. SkySafari on MacOS is wonderfully smooth and slick and quite frankly blows Stellarium out of the water (in this user’s humble opinion - it’s a user interface thang). You CAN link SkySafari running on MacOS to any ASCOM compliant mount over in your Windows VM using the free "WiFiScope" software (which I won’t direct link to as it’s by a direct competitor - use your GoogleFu). And I don’t blame you for this. Quickbooks for mac futureBut whatever floats yer boat - it all works just as well in either mode. Then use 4-finger swipes left and right to seamlessly slide from MacOS desktop to Windows desktop.I find this much more convenient than Parallel’s integrated "coherence" mode, where Windows Apps appear (visually) as a standalone app in MacOS on your MacOS desktop. Run your VM in fullscreen mode, and enable multi-touch gestures over in MacOS for your Trackpad. Refer to the Parallels Knowledge Base for further info.My final tip.
